A Hoarder’s Tale of Decluttering

Recently, we embarked on a long overdue decluttering of our home.

Cheryl considers me a hoarder, a term I find hard to refute. I do sometimes see myself as an archivist of all things with future potential utility. I do keep the packaging from all my gadgets. Not just the box but also the documentation, receipts, inner cardboard scaffolding and yes, even the little silica gel packet that sternly warns DO NOT EAT, as if I had plan to live for a prolonged period of time in a sauna.

“When I was just a little girl, I asked my mother, ‘What will I be?’”

And so begins Que Sera, Sera, a song many of us (of a certain age, I must add) grew up learning and humming as we went about our merry ways. By today’s standards, the song is almost laughably simple. No multilayered tracks. No music video. No auto-tune. No beat that could launch a viral TikTok dance. Just a woman asking life’s biggest questions and receiving what sounds like a philosophical shrug from the universe: Whatever will be, will be.

Post AI-takeover Career Advice

I was recently asked what advice to give students about which courses they should pursue so they can be gainfully employed when they graduate. 

No, this wasn’t some profound moment in a hushed university lecture hall. It was my drinking buddy interrogating me in a cricket-themed pub in Bukit Damansara after we’d both exceeded the legal limit to operate anything more complex than a toilet flush.
